Help Available When You Face Behavioral Health and Substance Abuse Problems

The Employee Assistance Program (called EAP) covers behavioral health and substance abuse problems. The EAP staff of counselors, psychologists, social workers and psychiatrists can help you deal with stress, depression, gambling, drinking or drug abuse, domestic violence, anger management, family or relationship issues and other personal problems.

MHN administers the EAP benefit for the 32BJ Health Fund. EAP benefits are in-network only, which means that you only have coverage if you use providers in the MHN network. Call 800-798-2150 to use your EAP benefit.

An EAP counselor will discuss your problem with you, assess your needs and outline a plan of action that makes best use of your benefit. There is no limit to the number of sessions that you can have with a counselor on the phone, Monday – Friday 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Phone sessions —which are free —range between 15 and 50 minutes.

If you or a covered family member need more specialized care or extensive treatment, the EAP counselor may refer you to a specialist or in-patient facility that can provide more care. There is a $15 co-pay for each out-patient visit. There is no co-pay for in-patient care. In-patient care must be precertified. Benefits for in-patient substance abuse rehabilitation are payable only once in each person’s lifetime.

For additional information about the specific coverage that you have for in-patient and outpatient care, please refer to your plan’s SPD.
